Collected through student-led mobilisation for school reading access.
Student-led in Johannesburg
Literacy + STEM, led by students in inner-city Johannesburg.
Next Chapter Jozi is a student-led education initiative helping under-resourced schools access books, functional reading spaces, STEM opportunities and practical learning support.
Founded by learners who believe young people can contribute now.
Rooted in Johannesburg communities such as Hillbrow, Yeoville and Berea.
Books, reading spaces, STEM exposure and practical learner support.
Johannesburg-rooted
A serious student-led movement for schools in the city.
Next Chapter Jozi is built around practical access: books learners can use, reading spaces that feel cared for, STEM opportunities that feel reachable and partnerships shaped by real school needs.

The challenge
The problem is not potential. It is access.
Across many under-resourced schools, learners are expected to compete academically while facing limited access to books, functional reading spaces, STEM resources, mentorship and enrichment opportunities. Next Chapter Jozi exists because talent should not depend on the resources surrounding a learner.
Limited reading resources
Many learners are expected to build reading confidence without enough age-appropriate books, study guides, reference material or welcoming places to read.
Underused library spaces
Books become more useful when schools have organised, welcoming reading spaces with sorting systems, displays, labels and room to read.
Unequal STEM exposure
STEM can feel distant when schools have limited labs, technology, enrichment programmes, mentorship or practical demonstrations.
Limited enrichment opportunities
Learners need more than once-off donations. They need partnerships, mentors, useful systems and pathways that keep access visible.
What we do
Books, libraries, STEM and student-led action.
Next Chapter Jozi is about access + space + culture: getting books into schools, making those books usable, creating STEM pathways and building partnerships that respect school needs.

Literacy Drives
We collect and distribute school-appropriate books that support reading confidence, vocabulary growth, curiosity and independent learning.

STEM Access
We create practical opportunities for learners to explore maths, science, technology, coding, robotics, problem-solving and future careers.

School Partnerships
We work with schools to understand what support is actually useful, then plan, deliver, listen and improve with staff as partners.

Student Leadership
Students organise campaigns, communicate with partners, manage resources, tell stories and build education projects with seriousness.

Reading spaces learners can use.
We do not only collect books. We help schools turn books into organised, welcoming reading spaces through library support, reading corners, book sorting, shelving, labelling, displays and practical refurbishment where possible.

STEM access
STEM that feels practical, not distant.
Next Chapter Jozi helps learners engage with science, technology, engineering and mathematics through resources, workshops, digital tools, mentorship and school partnerships.

Impact preview
Small actions. Measurable change.
Next Chapter Jozi is still growing, but the early work already shows what student-led mobilisation can do: 1200+ books raised and a next phase focused on reading spaces, STEM access and school partnerships.
